With the lack of Deadpool’s cinematic presence in 2019, many are curious as to the whereabouts of the third Deadpool movie. Given the Disney/Fox acquisition and Ryan Reynolds hinting at it numerous times, many are wondering if Deadpool 3 is still going to be a thing. Fortunately, Reynolds has confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in production, although it is still early on.
During an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Reynolds mentioned that the Merc with the Mouth will be returning for a new film. Reynolds stated that, “We’re working on it right now, the whole team.” One reason why it might be taking longer than usual is that they are still transitioning by being a part of Marvel Studios, meaning that Deadpool 3 could have some potential ties to the MCU this time instead of Fox’s X-men franchise. Something to also note is that Emma Watts, Fox’s former president of film production, will not be overseeing the production of Deadpool 3, with the assumption that Kevin Feige will take her place. However, Watts will still be overseeing productions of other Fox movies including Free Guy, also starring Reynolds.
Of course, it is definitely expected that Deadpool will still continue, given the franchise’s past success. Both films combined have made over $1.5 billion dollars, making them some of 20th Century Fox’s most successful Marvel films and whose formula Disney obviously wants to keep afloat. Regardless, fans will still get some enjoyment on seeing Deadpool potentially interact with some of the most famous stars from the MCU, provided Disney lets his third film keep the R-rated treatment.
