The ‘Merc with the Mouth’ has found his writers for the third installment of the Deadpool franchise. According to Deadline, Ryan Reynolds and Marvel Studios recently sat down with a plethora of writers to hear their pitch for Deadpool 3. Eventually landing with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to pen the script.
Reynolds will be back as Deadpool, but this is huge news for the next installment as this will be the first in the franchise since the Disney and Fox merger. For almost a year now there has been little movement with the popular R-rated franchise. Many individuals online believed Disney would try to go with a PG-13 rating, which follows their other MCU properties, though now with the Molyneux sisters onboard, it is expected to have an R-rating.
The Molyneux sisters are a writing duo that won an Emmy in 2017 for their involvement in the Bob’s Burgers writing room. Besides writers, they are also producers on the series and a few others as well. This will be their first official feature length blockbuster outing, but seeing as they have been writing for a TV series for nearly a decade now, ninety or so pages should not be too difficult.
Director David Leitch, who recently directed Reynolds in Hobbs & Shaw and directed Deadpool 2, is up to return, but his schedule is quite busy with three films in various stages of production. Letich’s return is quite unlikely. Especially with Disney and Kevin Feige now onboard, Marvel Studios might go in a new direction with the helm of this franchise.
Besides the return of Ryan Reyonds as star and producer, it is unknown if Zazie Beetz, Karan Soni, Josh Brolin or Morena Baccarin will return to reprise their roles from previous installments, but it is safe to assume that TJ Miller will not return.
This is a huge step in beginning the process of Deadpool 3, though it is still incredibly early to know if this will be the final writing team to tackle the next adventure for the Merc with the Mouth. It is still exciting to see that an MCU Deadpool is on the way.
