Ryan Gosling Set to Play the New ‘Wolfman’ for Universal

While Universal’s first attempt at creating a shared universe with it’s classic monsters failed, it appears that the studio is taking another stab at it, this time with Ryan Gosling set to portray the famous monster ‘The Wolfman,’ according to Variety.  Universal’s first attempt at their ‘Dark Universe’ failed dramatically with The Mummy (2017) being universally scathed by critics and audiences, along with dismal show ups at box office. Universal decided to take new approach to their classic monsters, trusting the critically lauded studio Blumhouse to reboot their famous character, The Invisible Man. After the success of their approach that focused on emotional scares and not superhero antics, with The Invisible Man, Universal is not letting a good thing go to waste, now trusting the studio with their famous character, The Wolfman.

While the project has no director or producer at the time, it is set to be co-written by Lauren Schuker Blum. She is the wife of Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, who will most likely produce the project, tentatively titled Wolfman. According to the official synopsis, “Gosling would play an anchorman who gets infected in what has been described as having a Network/Nightcrawler vibe.”

With timely themes, a big star, and a writer who certainly has good horror roots, Wolfman already has promising ingredients for a new horror classic.
