Guillermo Del Toro, director of films like Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, and the upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein, is set to produce, alongside longtime collaborator J. Miles Dale, a feature adaptation of The Boy in the Iron Box. The film will be based on a six-part horror story published by Amazon Original Stories for the digital Kindle platform, and written by Del Toro and Chuck Hogan.
The story follows a group of mercenaries who take refuge in a long-abandoned fortress after crash landing on a snow summit, who then discover a pit with a box wrapped in chains, causing terrors to be unleashed around them.
The film adaptation will be written and directed by David Prior, who previously directed the 2020 horror film, The Empty Man. Rupert Friend, Kevin Durand and Jaeden Martell are all set to star in the film. Friend will play the leader of the Mercenaries, Liev. Durand will play another of the mercenaries. Martell will play the titular boy in the Iron Box.
The film is being produced for Netflix and will begin production in October. Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein is set to release in theaters on October 17th before releasing on Netflix on November 7th.
