There have been a lot of rumors surrounding a possible Marvel project starring the character Ms. Marvel, as well as speculation that actress Mindy Kaling is connected to this project. Now it looks like some of the rumors are starting to come true.
Currently in Marvel comics, Miss Marvel, not to be confused with Captain Marvel when she went by that name, is a young Pakistani-American teenage girl named Kamala Khan with polymorphic powers. Ms. Marvel is well liked by comic book fans due to her fun personality, relatable storylines, and status as one of the few mainstream Muslim superheroes.
Ms. Marvel has become so popular since her 2014 debut that fans have demanded to see her in the MCU, and it looks like she might be showing up very soon. It’s just come out that Mindy Kaling, known for The Mindy Project and recently Late Night, has been in contact with Marvel, having expressed interest in working with them on a Ms. Marvel project. Of course, since Kamala is supposed to be a teenager, it’s unlikely Kaling will be playing her.
Not much is known on what Marvel has in mind for both Kaling and Ms. Marvel, but what’s certain is the studio’s interest in using the character. Captain Marvel and Black Panther proved that movies about female or nonwhite superheroes can succeed, so a Ms. Marvel movie is possible. However Kaling mentioned in an interview that Marvel is also considering the new Disney Plus streaming service as a possible way to tell Kamala’s story.
