According to Deadline, Oscar-nominated actress Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) is set to star as Marie Colvin in an as-yet untitled film. Colvin was an American journalist who covered war-torn areas such as Chechnya, Kosovo, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe for the British paper The Sunday Times. She began wearing a left eye patch following a 2001 blast by a Sri Lankan Army RPG which permanently caused vision loss in that eye. She died at age 56 while covering the siege of Homs in Syria. Lawyers representing her family later filed a civil action against the government of Syria alleging that the Syrian government had directly ordered her assassination.
Matthew Heineman, an award-winning documentary director (Cartel Land), is helming from a script by Arash Amel (Erased). Producers are Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Kamala Films’ Marissa McMahon, as well as Denver & Delilah Films. Erica Lee is executive producing.
Pike garnered a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her starring role in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. She most recently starred in Amma Asante’s A United Kingdom opposite David Oyelowo (Queen of Katwe). She most recently completed filming Jean Luc Herbulot’s The Bends, an action thriller currently in post-production.
Production on the Marie Colvin biopic will begin this October, on location in the U.K. and the Middle East.
