Ron Perlman Pokes Fun at ‘Hellboy’ Reboot With Anchorman Meme

With the recent release of the first trailer for the upcoming Hellboy reboot, directed by Neil Marshall, and with David Harbour portraying the titular hero, plenty of heads turned in confusion and doubt. Many moviegoers found themselves fans of the two Hellboy films written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro and hoped for a third movie rather than a reboot of the entire series. Due to this, a lot of criticisms have flooded social media in lieu of our first look at the new iteration of the bulky, red demon of a superhero.

Ron Perlman, who originally portrayed Hellboy in Del Toro’s 2004 and 2008 movies, had a bit of fun yesterday with a post that poked fun at the reboot film. On Instagram, the American actor posted a meme using an image from the contemporary comedy classic Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy. The image shows Steve Carell’s character Brick Tamland sitting in one of the newscaster seats with the caption “You’re not Ron.” This is taken from a scene in which Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) was taking the place of Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) as head newscaster. This would prove quite appropriate for the replacement of another beloved Ron, leaving many in the same awkward and puzzled state.

There was no bitterness with the post of course, with Perlman’s caption reading, “I would never be so ungentlemanly as to comment on this. So… NO COMMENT! (Although that shit’s funny AF)” showing the simple fun he was having with the reactions towards a role he once played. The original post can be checked out below.

Robert Thornson Jr.: My name is Robert and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a B.A. in Film and Media studies with hopes to work in the creative industry. I have always had a passion for storytelling and since youth I've loved film. I grew up loving the movies of directors like Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and many more along with writers such as Aaron Sorkin and Quentin Tarantino. One thing I have always done is write about movies and communicate to others information about the "film community" and the industry as well as about the films themselves. I write creatively on a daily basis.
