The new trailer has recently debuted for the 2013 adaptation of the Shakespearean classic Romeo and Juliet. The film stars Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Ender’s Game) and Douglas Booth (Noah, BBC One’s Great Expectations adaptation) as the famous lovers, while the script was adapted by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes.
As seen in the trailer, the film boasts a stellar cast which includes Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Win Win), Ed Westwick (J. Edgar, Chalet Girl), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road, Let Me In), Damian Lewis (HBO’s Band of Brothers, Showtime’s Homeland) and Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting, Marvel’s The Avengers).
Romeo and Juliet is directed by Italian director Carlo Carlei and joins an anthology of film adaptations of the famous play. Leonardo DiCaprio starred in the 1996 modernized Romeo + Juliet, while the 1998 film Shakespeare in Love follows Joseph Fiennes as the legendary playwright as he is inspired to write the play which mirrors his own romantic relationship. It will be interesting to see how Carlei and Fellowes add to the existing culture surrounding the tragic love story.
Romeo and Juliet has finished filming and is scheduled to hit theaters this fall.
