The upcoming romantic comedy The Perfect Find from AGC Studios has made the perfect landing at Netflix.
The Perfect Find is the feature adaptation of Tia William’s 2016 bestseller novel, adapted by Leigh Davenport. The picture will be directed by Jezebel filmmaker Numa Perrier, with Gabrielle Union attached to star. Union is also set on producing the project via her production company I’ll Have Another, which AGC is financing. Black Love creators Tommy Oliver and Codie Elaine Oliver of Confluential Films are also producing, with executive producers AGC’s Stuart Ford, Glendon Palmer, and Holly Shakoor Fleischer.
The Perfect Find centers on Jenna Jones (Union), a woman hopeful that her new job in beauty journalism will mark a fresh start in life, only to learn that her new boss, Darcy, is her frenemy. As an middle-aged woman who has never “Twittered” before, she must learn the ways of her younger, social media-obsessed, hip co-workers while keeping Darcy off her back. Jenna soon starts a secret relationship with the company’s videographer, Eric, and things get complicated when she learns he is Darcy’s son.
Union is best known for her roles in Bring It On and in TV series Being Mary Jane. She is currently in the crime drama TV series L.A.’s Finest, whose Season 2 premiere has been pushed back amid the recent Black Lives Matter protests.
Perrier’s coming-of-age drama Jezebel, which she also co-starred in, made its world premiere last year at SXSW. The pic was also streamed on Netflix earlier this year. Perrier, who also made acting cameos on SMILF, Jerico and General Hospital, has director/producer credits on Queen Sugar and served as EP on Black&Sexy TV series Rider, Sexless and Becoming Nia.
