Robert Pattinson is enthusiastic about promoting his upcoming film Mickey 17. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, The Batman star discussed feeling disenchanted with the film industry over the past few years. He described aligning with the widespread fear of the death of cinema after COVID and the Hollywood strikes: “I was almost turned off.”
Luckily Pattinson regained his passion for cinema in light of the past year of films. He applauded the Norwegian thriller drama Armand as well as Oscar nominees The Brutalist and Anora. Describing formerly feeling the movie industry was not “cool”, the global superstar who skyrocketed to fame during the Twilight series, expressed a connection between his lack of engagement and how the industry felt “very studio”.
Pattinson stars in the lead role of the Bong Joon Ho, directed Mickey 17. He described his character as someone who has “zero self-worth but isn’t depressed.” The sci-fi fantasy is about a disposable employee who is sent to space to colonize a planet.
Signaling hope for the film community, Pattinson mentioned the abundance of interesting parts for actors nowadays. In terms of directors, he noted “there’s suddenly new batch of directors who the audience is excited about as well.”
