A24 has released the trailer for their latest drama-thriller Good Time ahead of its Cannes premiere. The film stars Robert Pattinson in another shape shifting role as Connie Nikas, a bank robber caught in a bind running from those who are after him and desperately trying to free his brother from prison. The film also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Barkhad Abdi.
Brothers Joshua and Ben Safdie directed the film — Joshua also co-wrote it with Ronald Bronstein and Ben co-stars as Connie’s brother Nick. The Safdie brothers have been making their way through the indie world for some time, winning the Sundance Short Film Jury Prize in 2012 for The Black Balloon, as well as an the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award for Daddy Longlegs (originally named Go Get Some Rosemary).
For Good Time, the pair seemed to have established and refined a stylish grit comparable to Nicholas Winding Refn’s Drive, but also something completely all their own. See the trailer and trippy poster below that combine enough intensity and solemnity to last audiences until its official release on August 11.
