While Superman’s release is just on the horizon, more headlines have been popping up about repeated delays to Matt Reeves’ follow-up to The Batman. While it’s faced several date changes, lead actor Robert Pattinson has commented on just how long the process is taking to get going.
The Batman saw Robert Pattinson don the cape and cowl for the first time, playing a younger Batman who has to stop The Riddler before he can completely dismantle Gotham City. The film has become one of Pattinson’s most recognizable of recent years, alongside the likes of The Lighthouse and Tenet.
Hollywood Reporter notes that the follow-up to the film, which was initially released in 2022, was slated to debut just later this year. Now, it’s set for a 2027 fall release.
While discussing his newest film, Mickey 17, in which he plays a soldier in a far off world who keeps getting reincarnated after bizarre deaths, Pattinson commented on his feelings about the ongoing delays.
He told Hero magazine that he sorely hoped he’d be picking up filming soon for The Batman’s sequel. He didn’t mince words either, saying he started as a younger version of the character in the first film, but will end up being a much older version by the time part two rolls around.
He followed his initial comment by saying he’s still in good physical shape, considering his age of 38. “I’m old, but I’m healthier. I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit,” he said.
Mickey 17 hits theaters this Friday.
