Robert Downey Jr.’s Book ‘Cool Food: Erasing Your Carbon Footprint One Bite At a Time’ Picked Up by Blackstone Publishing

Deadline has learned that Robert Downey Jr. and environmental writer Thomas Kostigen will co-write Cool Food: Erasing Your Carbon Footprint One Bite at A Time for Blackstone Publishing. Their combined goal is to provide individual people with the tools necessary to minimize environmental damage through food choices.

“Our best global food future requires no hand-wringing, fad diets, or radical shame,” Downey explains. “Just a perspective shift to discovering the many solutions in plain sight. With Kostigen in the cockpit and Blackstone’s formidable ground control, it should be an actionable adventure. Join us.”

The non-fiction book marks the first in Downey Jr.’s career. Yet, his work with Marvel forged a passion for nutrition combined with a reduction in carbon footprint, likely originating from his work with The Footprint Coalition. Downey founded the Footprint Coalition in 2019 as a business non-profit centered around sustainable technology.

‘As the great Yogi Berra once said, “The future ain’t what it used to be,'” said Kostigen. “Increasingly, we are presented with forecasts of a worsening climate. Cool Food shows how we can change that outlook for the better by making a few different choices at the grocery store, trying something new on the restaurant menu, and by keeping an eye out for foods that store more carbon in the ground rather than polluting the air.”

Stanton and Blackstone Head of New Business Development Rick Bleiweiss confirm the deal for this book adds: “Cool Food provides an approachable roadmap with practical steps to reduce our carbon footprint- and, with brilliant and witty Downey Jr. and Kostigen at the helm, readers are sure to have a lot of fun as they learn too.”

There is no set release date for the book.
