The cast of David O. Russell’s upcoming film is shaping up to be the most star-studded of his entire career. In new wave of casting announcements, it was revealed that Robert De Niro, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts and Alessandro Nivola would be joining the already stacked cast.
It’s unclear what the new film will be about, but it’s based on an original idea from O. Russell and was once rumored to be called Amsterdam. The idea must be interesting if it’s been able to get this many A-list stars attached. It was previously announced that Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek and Zoe Saldana were already starring in the upcoming movie.
This is O. Russell’s first film since the Jennifer Lawrence-led drama Joy from 2015. After critical hot streak in the early 2010s with The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, Joy looked like a flop in comparison. The film earned just over a third of what his American Hustle did in 2013.
Based on the casting of his new film, it seems that he and New Regency are looking to acquire some awards considerations. But without any details about the plot and O. Russell’s diverse filmography, we still don’t know what to expect from the project.
