Roadside Attractions & Vertical Entertainment Gain Rights To ‘Emily the Criminal’

Aubrey Plaza’s latest project, Emily the Criminal, which premiered during the Sundance Festival has been acquired by Roadside Attractions and Vertical Entertainment for distribution rights in North America. The film was first released during the Sundance Festival in January and has had overwhelmingly positive feedback from critics and casual viewers alike.

Aubrey Plaza was first discovered in the Parks & Recreation television show and plays Emily in the film, a girl with massive student debt and no way to pay it back. A minor criminal record hinders her from getting any good job and in her desperation, she stumbles upon a dummy shopping network in which she shops for flat-screen TVs and the like with fake credit cards and fake IDs provided by a middleman. She makes good cash for an hour’s worth of work and the middleman gets rich reselling the goods. Emily tries to get out of the dummy shopping business and get a job that operates within the law but she fails to do so. With each attempt, she becomes increasingly angry and frustrated, only pushing her to get deeper and deeper into a world of crime and violence.

Roadside Attractions and Vertical Entertainment will be pushing to release the film as soon as possible this year. There is as of yet no official release date but it will most likely come out this year.
