Rihanna As Smurfette Is Revealed In New Trailer

The little blue Smurfs have been around ever since the cartoon premiered in the 1980s. Since then, Sony has released three feature films starring the Smurfs: The Smurfs (2011), The Smurfs 2 (2013) and Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017). Katy Perry was the voice of Smurfette in the first two films while Demi Lovato voiced her in the 2017 reboot.

Now the baton has been passed to Rihanna, who will voice Smurfette in the upcoming movie. Not only is Rihanna voicing Smurfette, she also wrote, produced, and sang original songs for the film. Joining Rihanna as cast members are Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman.

The movie is directed by Chris Miller. Miller credited the artist of the original comics, Peyo, as the inspiration and style of animation in the film. The script was written by Pam Brady and produced by Rihanna, Jay Brown, Ty Ty Smith, and Ryan Harris.

The movie will be released by Paramount Animation on July 18.
