According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vertical Entertainment recently secured the rights to John Hay’s To Olivia, a Roald Dahl biopic surrounding the events of the famed writer and his wife, Patricia Neal.
One of the film producers, Donall McCusker, says, “I am delighted that Vertical Entertainment is releasing To Olivia. It’s been a labor of love to bring this remarkable and timely story to the screen, and I look forward to seeing the response of the North American audience to this wonderfully acted and finely crafted film.”
The film centers itself around the lives of Dahl and Neal, navigating the loss of their daughter Olivia who died due to the measles virus in 1962. This heartbreak led Dahl to write arguably his most famous work, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“To Olivia is a heartfelt portrayal of Roald Dahl and his family’s lives, the highs and lows, and how Dahl grappled with an unimaginable loss and channeled it into creating stories that would uplift and brighten children’s lives for decades to come,” says Tony Piantedosi, a partner at Vertical Entertainment.
The movie is slated to release on April 15, 2022, with Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) playing Dahl and Keeley Hawes (Rebecca) as Neal. Sam Heughan (Outlander) and Geoffrey Palmer (As Time Goes By) also join the cast of this U.K. drama.
