Rick Moranis Will Return to Acting for ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’ Reboot

Rick Moranis was once one of the most popular comedic actors of the 1980s, starring in hit films such as Ghostbusters and Spaceballs. Unfortunately, Moranis retired from acting following the 2003 animated film Brother Bear, stating that wanted to focus his time on raising his family. That is all about to change as Moranis will be returning to reprise one of his most recognizable roles from in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids reboot

The upcoming Disney reboot will be known as Shrunk and be a theatrical release, rather than the initially rumored Disney+ exclusive. The original film’s director Joe Johnson (The RocketeerCaptain America: The First Avenger) will be returning to direct and the script will be written by Todd Rosenberg. Alongside Moranis’ return as Wayne Szalinski, Josh Gad will be playing Szalinski’s son. The plot will be set many years later and Szalinski’s son trying to be a scientist but unfortunately making the same mistakes as his father by accidentally shrinking his own kids.

The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids films are one of Disney’s most popular franchises, with the original film making over $200 million worldwide. This led to a few sequels with Honey, I Blew Up the Kids and Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, as well as a television series and even a theme park attraction. With Disney getting a kick out of bringing back their older properties, reviving Honey, I Shrunk the Kid only makes sense. However, the fact that Rick Moranis is coming out of retirement for the film film will certainly get more fans interested, even if it is just a reboot.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
