Star Wars fans can expect a lot more than just The Last Jedi from the latest writer-director of the saga, Rian Johnson. According to StarWars.com, Johnson is planning and developing his very own trilogy for the Disney property.
The set of three films will exist outside of the current and known canon of the Star Wars universe and take audiences to unexplored stories within the galaxy. Johnson will write and direct the first film in the trilogy with the remaining two films to be determined later.
After working with Johnson on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in theaters on December 15, LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy has only glowing reviews of the filmmaker. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
The expanding Star Wars series and spinoffs don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. After The Last Jedi, fans can expect Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Untitled Boba Fett and possible Obi Wan Kenobi origin stories, as well as Episode IX of the ongoing series. We can now add three more films to that, taking audiences deep into the distant future of Star Wars entertainment.
