

The Middleburg Film Festival, which takes place from October 16-19, 2025 in Middleburg, Virginia, has selected Rental Family as its closing night film. Director and co-writer, Hikari (37 Seconds, Beef), will participate in a Q&A following the screening.
Distributed by Searchlight Pictures, the film stars Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser, who plays an American actor struggling to find purpose. He takes on a job at a Japanese agency where he provides stand-in roles for strangers. The film is currently rated 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes based on 33 reviews.
Noah Baumbach’s film, Jay Kelly, led by Oscar-winner George Clooney and Adam Sandler, is slated to open the festival. The film, distributed by Netflix, is rated 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. It follows a famous movie actor and his manager on a journey through Europe. The film was co-written by Baumbach and Emily Mortimer.
Chloé Zhao, who won an Oscar for her direction of Nomadland, will present her latest film, Hamnet, and receive the Visionary Director Award. Her TIFF People’s Choice Award winning film stars Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley. Colin Farrell and Rose Byrne will also receive artist awards.
