Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 have official release dates. As reported by Variety, the latest additions into the blockbuster franchise are prepped for summer releases on July 23, 2021, and August 5, 2022. The two films’ release was recently announced by director Christopher McQuarrie and longtime star, Tom Cruise, on Twitter last month. M:I-8 will be Cruise’s eighth and McQuarrie’s fourth addition to the Mission: Impossible franchise.
McQuarrie has proven his ability to appeal to both audiences and critics in the latest Mission: Impossible installment, Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, Jim Gianopulos, complimented the director, “We couldn’t be more excited to build on the massive success of ‘Mission: Impossible — Fallout’ by re-teaming with Chris and Tom on these next two films, following two successful collaborations.” Fallout currently stands as the most successful film in the Mission: Impossible series – grossing over $790 million in the global market. In addition to its financial success, Fallout stands as the series’ most critically acclaimed project, maintaining a 97% on the all-important aggregate criticism site, Rotten Tomatoes.
Before McQuarrie’s introduction into the series in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the action franchise was known for featuring a fresh director in each of its progressing iterations. However, McQuarrie seems to have solidified himself as the definitive creative force to lead the franchise into its 26th year. The plot and titles for M:I-7 & M:I-8 have yet to be revealed.
