Release Date Set for Cannes-Bound ‘Good Time’ Starring Robert Pattinson

A24 Films has set an August 11th release date for Good Time, their forthcoming crime drama starring Robert Pattinson. The film will make its world premiere at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, where it will compete for the Palme d’Or. Ben and Joshua Safdie (Heaven Knows What) both wrote and directed the feature.

The synopsis reads, “After a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Constantine Nikas (Robert Pattinson) embarks on a twisted odyssey through the city’s underworld in an increasingly desperate—and dangerous—attempt to get his brother out of jail. Over the course of one adrenalized night, Constantine finds himself on a mad descent into violence and mayhem as he races against the clock to save his brother and himself, knowing their lives hang in the balance.” Oscar nominated actors Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight) and Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips) co-star.

The Safdies previously directed the admired indies Go Get Some Rosemary and Heaven Knows What, winning the John Cassavettes Award at the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Award for the former. Heaven Knows What marked a significant threshold of the filmmakers as the film – an unflinching look at addiction and homelessness – achieved critical acclaim and signaled the start of promising career for leading lady Arielle Holmes, who last year appeared in American Honey.

Good Time also marks another opportunity for former Twilight heartthrob Pattinson to gain in indie credibility. In recent years, the actors has appeared in edgy art-house movies like Cosmopolis and Map to the Stars, both directed by David Croenberg. He can currently be seen in theaters in James Gray’s The Lost City of Z.

A24 picked up the film last fall. Good Time will hit theaters on August 11th. The 2017 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 17th-28th.
