Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line) has garnered serious awards attention for her latest transformation as Cheryl Strayed, in Jean-Marc Vallée’s (Dallas Buyers Club) Wild, a film based on Strayed’s memoir detailing her three-plus month hike on the Pacific Crest Trail and the tumultuous events that led her there. The film premiered at Telluride Film Festival in August and has since made the rounds on the international film festival circuit. In the above clip, Witherspoon’s Strayed encounters a reporter hoping to interview her for “The Hobo Times.” Strayed denies the label altogether, and attempts to explain her situation, which ultimately falls on deaf ears. The subtitle for Strayed’s novel reads, “From lost to found on the Pacific Crest Trail,” and seeing how this clip portrays Strayed asserting her identity – or at least defending one – we can assume this scene represents a sort of turning point for the character, whether small or large. The film will be released worldwide on December 5th, and in the meantime you can check out the full trailer here.
