A bidding war has begun on the upcoming Reese Witherspoon sci-fi action film, Pyros, produced by herself and Simon Kinberg. According to Deadline, the film will be written by Thomas Pierce who is currently adapting his short story Tardy Man, which received much acclaim after publication in The New Yorker last year. Pierce has been utilizing this playbook for quite some time as his other short story Chairman Spaceman is currently being looked at by Fox Searchlight with Kinberg in the director’s seat as well.
Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter are acting as producers through Genre Films’ head Audrey Chon. The story of Tardy Man surrounds a group of people who are fitted with impenetrable fire suits that connect to their spines. The so-called fire workers operate under a company that recovers belongings for the rich when their houses sustain fire damage. The company policy requires these fire workers to stay on course with salvaging and avoiding contact with others including those that are in danger. The protagonists decide to disobey orders and assist people trapped in the fires ensuing the plot.
CAA is handling the bidding for the film and are expected to land a buyer within the coming weeks.
