Neon has released the official red band trailer for their upcoming film, The Beach Bum. The footage features Matthew McConaughey as the sex addicted stoner, Moondog, partying with some of his best middle aged pals as they wither away on the tropical Miami coast. The preview flaunts the film’s impressive cast and features appearances from Isla Fisher, Martin Lawrence, Zac Efron, Jonah Hill, and Snoop Dogg.
The new trailer shows McConaughey’s drug fueled world slowly crumble and forces the former artist to put his “talent” to better use and write the “next great American novel.” In addition to introducing audiences to the lovable rebel Moondog, The Beach Bum trailer gives us a disturbing look at some of the insane antics Moondog and his compadres have in store. The trailer opens with Moondog’s declaration to “swallowing up the world” which is met by thunderous applause by an enthusiastic crowd of adherent baby boomers. The two and a half minute trailer also exhibits a beer drinking cat, cocaine eating parrot, and of course, McConaughey’s bare butt inside a purple thong.
The Beach Bum is the latest project for director Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers). The film looks to be a perfect match for Korine’s chaotic style.
