With the release of the trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, many have been discussing the details revealed by it in anticipation for the film’s release. Director Gunn himself has gotten in on the conversation, as well, specifically stating where he plans to take these films after Superman. Superman sees David Corenswet take up the cape as the man of steel, who has to find a way to balance his powerful gifts and his everyday life. Rachel Brosnahan stars alongside him as Lois Lane, as well as Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
Gunn’s newest superhero flick is meant to be the genesis of a brand new cinematic universe for DC, after the DCEU ended with Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. This new universe is being helmed by both Gunn himself and Peter Safran.
So far, a number of other films have been confirmed to be following Superman, such as Andy Muschietti’s The Brave And The Bold and James Mangold’s Swamp Thing. Screenrant notes that Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow is slated to be the second film in the lineup, releasing just shy of a year after Superman.
Recently, Gunn talked about his choice for picking Supergirl to be the second feature to follow Superman, and how his decision boiled down to the quality of the production so far.
In an interview with Omelete, which was translated by Comic Book Resources, Gunn talked about both the script of the film and the director they hired, using the word “incredible” to describe both, expressing it was the best project they had on deck. He also expressed that the quality of each individual film is what his focus is on first, with the secondary priority being how the overall cinematic universe will fit into the equation.
Superman hits theaters on July 11th.
