Ray Liotta Shares Fun Trivia on ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘The Many Saints of Newark’

Remember that badass, stunning, inn0vative, one-take tracking shot from Goodfellas where Henry and Karen enter the nightclub? It was ruined on the first take due to another actor messing up a line at the last possible moment.

Ray Liotta was a guest on The Rich Eisen Show, where he discussed the Martin Scorsese masterpiece that made Liotta an icon and his new film, The Many Saints of Newark, a sequel to The Sopranos, which is widely regarded as the greatest drama series of all-time.

As highlighted by The Hollywood Reporter, Liotta stated about Goodfellas in his Eisen interview: “There’s like 100 extras, we’re going through the kitchen, we’ve got a guy picking up the table and all of a sudden, we’re in the center of this thing,” Liotta said. “She says, ‘What do you do?’ and I say, ‘I’m in construction.’ And then it goes up to Henny Youngman. And after all that, he forgot his lines. He forgot his own jokes. So we had to do it again because the whole thing was one shot.”

Liotta plays Aldo “Hollywood Dick’ Moltisanti, grandfather to Christopher Moltisanti, one of the main characters of the original HBO series played by Michael Imperioli.“It is raw as a Mafia movie could be,” Liotta said of David Chase’s vision, adding that viewers did not need to watch the show to understand and enjoy the movie. The Many Saints in Newark hits theaters and streams on HBO Max on October 1st.
