IGN reports that Chris Pratt is set to voice Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated pic from Illumination Entertainment.

The film’s voice cast boasts a stellar lineup: Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. Kevin Michael Richardson will voice Kamek, Fred Armisen for Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco for Foreman Spike.

The reigning Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will also have featured cameos in the movie.

According to IGN, the casting announcement happened at today’s Nintendo Direct. The company revealed for the first time Universal’s upcoming adaptation of the long-running video game series.

Super Mario Bros. will be released in theaters on December 21, 2022. The project was announced back in 2018. Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri and Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto are both producers for the film.

Super Mario was adapted back in 1993 as a live-action feature starring Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi. The film was both a critical and commercial failure at the time, but it has since gathered a cult following as a unique adaptation and 90s artifact.

The 2022 version doesn’t have an official title name yet. Stay tuned for more news on this anticipated feature!
