Rachel Zegler Faces Off Against Killer Tech In New ‘Y2K’ Trailer

Rachel Zegler in 'Y2K'

A24 has just dropped the latest trailer for their upcoming film, a period piece aptly titled Y2K, ahead of its release next month with the famous words, “Party like it’s 1999.”

The trailer begins with time-appropriate footage of President Bill Clinton as he addresses the nation regarding the highly-speculated “Y2K” bug, where humanity momentarily worried all technological devices might seize to advance along with the new millennium.  The movie posits a “what if?” scenario, as we see dozens of 90’s teens react to the sentience and retaliation of everyday tech appliances in a bloody catastrophe. The trailer continues remixing the Clinton footage, reinforcing a layer of satire to the project.

Y2K is the directorial debut of Saturday Night Live’s Kyle Mooney. The trailer also gives us glances at the film’s cast: a troupe of young Hollywood actors, including Rachel Zegler (The Hunger Games: The Battle of Songbirds and Snakes), Jaeden Martell (It Chapter One and Two),  Julian Dennison (Godzilla vs. Kong), Eduardo Franco (Booksmart), and Lachlan Watson (SyFy’s Chucky series). Martell and Dennison play two teens who crash a New Year’s Eve party, unbeknownst to the madness to ensue after the ball drops at midnight.

Set to round out the cast are Mason Gooding (Scream [2022]), Miles Robbins (Halloween [2018]), Fred Hechinger (Fear Street), and 90’s royalty Alicia Silverstone. Mooney co-writes the script with Evan Winter, and Jonah Hill is attached with a Producer credit.

Y2K releases in theaters December 6th, 2024.
