Rachel Zegler, hot off the heels of Disney’s Snow White remake, has signed on to star in a new comedy drama alongside comedy veteran Marisa Tomei. The film, titled She Gets It From Me, will be directed by Julia von Heinz (And Tomorrow the Entire World, Treasure) and written by Jay Reiss (The Oranges). The film is set to follow Nicky (Rachel Zegler) when her engagement party turns into a disaster, with her mother (Marisa Tomei) at the center of it all. Her mother is an ex-rock/punk artist who is out of control, but Nicky attempts to reconnect with her over the course of the film.
When asked about the film, director Julia von Heinz said, “The emotional truth of the movie, reflecting parts of all our lives, is truly funny, immersive cinema. Jay’s screenplay captures family dynamics at their most authentic: absurd yet profound, messy yet meaningful. The collision of two worlds creates comedy that cuts deep because it’s so honest.” The film has a finished script, but filming has yet to begin. It is expected to be shopped around for pre-sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
Rachel Zegler recently starred as Snow White in Disney’s remake of the same name, but she has been busy with other projects as well. Beyond her silver screen debut in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, she has starred in multiple other films over the past three years, including Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and Y2K. Marisa Tomei is a seasoned actress, especially when it comes to comedies. While younger viewers may recognize her as Aunt May from the MCU Spider-Man films, her accolades begin much before then. She has starred in films such as Anger Management, In the Bedroom, The Big Short, and Crazy Stupid Love, and even won an Oscar for her performance in My Cousin Vinny.
