Rachel Weisz Set to Produce & Star in ‘Disobedience’

An adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s novel Disobedience is moving ahead with Rachel Weisz set to produce and star. Weisz will produce alongside Ed Guiney (Element Pictures), and Frida Torresblanco (Braven Films and Film 4).

Disobedience will be directed by Sebastian Lelio, who co-wrote the script with Rebecca Lenkiewicz. The original story followed a young woman who returns to her Orthodox Jewish home after the death of her estranged father. While in her quiet hometown, she begins to stir up trouble when she rekindles a stifled romance with her best friend- a woman who just so happens to be married to her cousin.

This news breaks following the opening of Weisz’s new drama Denial. 2016 has been an active year for Weisz, also starring in The Light Between Oceans which opened last month. The Academy Award winner recently wrapped filming the ironically titled My Cousin Rachel opposite Sam Claflin and also has the James Marsh movie The Mercy on deck for next year. In addition to her recent releases, she can also be seen starring opposite Colin Farrell in The Lobster.
