Fox Searchlight has revealed the first trailer for their upcoming summertime period mystery My Cousin Rachel starring Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz. Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Le Week-End) directs and penned the screenplay, based on the novel by Daphne Du Maurier.
In the film, Weisz portrays the beautiful yet enigmatic Rachel, who is suspected – by her cousin Philip (Sam Claflin, Me Before You) – of murdering his guardian. The drama thickens as Philip becomes ever more seduced by Rachel’s charms while also planning out his revenge. Holliday Grainger (Cinderella) and Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) co-star.

Old school film fans may recall that My Cousin Rachel was previously adapted back in 1952 by director Henry Koster. That film starred screen legends Richard Burton and Olivia de Havilland and earned 4 Oscar nominations back in its day, including a Best Supporting Actor mention for Burton. Du Maurier’s mastery of suspense has proved eternal; other works of hers that have been adapted to film include the Alfred Hitchcock classics The Birds and Rebecca (which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1941).
