Qantas Apologizes for In-Flight Movie Mishap Featuring Inappropriate Content

Qantas Airlines issued an apology following an incident where a flight from Sydney to Tokyo inadvertently played a movie containing nudity and sexually explicit content on all passenger screens. The airline confirmed that a malfunction in the entertainment system on flight QF59 prevented passengers from individually selecting movies, leading to the same film being displayed across the cabin.

The movie in question, Daddio, a 2023 drama starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, includes brief nudity and explicit text messages, which left some passengers, particularly those traveling with children, uncomfortable. The film, rated R for adult language, sexual material and brief nudity, was shown for nearly an hour before the crew switched to a more family-friendly movie.

“The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight, and we sincerely apologize to customers for this experience,” Qantas said in a statement. The airline added that it switched the film to a family-friendly option, adhering to its standard procedure when individual selections are unavailable.

The issue first came to light through posts on Reddit, where passengers shared their discomfort. One user mentioned that families with children onboard found the situation particularly awkward. Another Reddit user stated that the crew eventually replaced “Daddio” with “Inside Out 2” after passengers expressed concerns.

Qantas said it is reviewing how the movie was selected and has taken steps to prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future. The airline reiterated its commitment to providing a suitable in-flight experience for all passengers.
