Fresh off their box office and mixed critical success with the time travel thriller Project Almanac, screenwriters Andrew Deustchman and Jason Pagan have been hired to re-write the script for Lockdown – once known as Lockdown at Franklin High – according to The Wrap.
The story centers on a straight-laced teen girl and her polar-opposite rebellious brother as they try to escape their high school, which has gone on lock down due to students being savagely attacked by a monster on the loose.
The original script was written on spec in a competitive situation at Sony by horror-writers Gregg Bishop and Joe Ballarini. The idea for the plot was inspired by real life high school lock downs following tragic incidents.
Sony Pictures along with Benderspink and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes banner will be handling distribution and production. Bay also produced Deustchman and Pagan’s Project Almanac. This combination, up until now, seems to be a formula for success. With Bay producing a mixture of serious horror films and teen thrillers – from The Purge to the Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchises – this teen monster movie seems up his alley. Likewise, as Deustchman and Pagan continue to explore the teen scene – or “high school-y fun,” as our editor called it in his PA review – the duo could be a perfect choice for Lockdown.
