Universal’s newest romantic comedy, Ticket to Paradise, starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney, has been forced to pause production after rising COVID cases in film location Queensland, Australia.
According to Deadline, 12 cast and crew members have recently tested positive for the virus; due to this, everyone else has been sent home. There is hope that they can return to set as soon as next month. First reports came in saying that production was going on hiatus, claims to say that there are only two weeks left to shoot, but will now be paused for at least three months, the film’s American stars being flown back to the states to wait out the spike in local cases.
Universal did confirm the delay but has yet to release a timeframe as to when filming will begin again.
Queensland, Australia- the film’s filming location- recorded 15,962 new cases of COVID and 16 deaths related to the virus yesterday, the state’s single most deadly day since the pandemic began.
Ol Parker is directing the film, Ticket to Paradise, starring Roberts and Clooney, which follows the story of a divorced couple who team up and take a trip to Bali in order to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they made, only 25 years before. Billie Lourd, Kaitlyn Dever, and Lily Lucas Bravo also star in the film.
Universal set the original release date to be October 21st, 2022, but this is now likely to be delayed.
