Producer Hints ‘A Minecraft Movie 2’ May Bring To Life Minecraft’s Final Boss

After the massive success of the first installment, grossing nearly $1 billion, Warner Bros quickly greenlit a sequel to A Minecraft Movie.  With production set to begin in April, producer Roy Lee hinted at a story point that might find its way into the upcoming sequel.

Released in 2025, A Minecraft Movie introduced the basic game elements of craftsmanship, survival, and of course the game’s trademark Steve character, played by Jack Black.  Liam Crowley of ScreenRant questioned producer Roy Lee about any characters that may appear in the sequel that were absent from the first film.  Lee pointed to the great fan anticipation for the Ender Dragon, considered the final boss in the Minecraft game.

In the game, players find the Dragon by locating a hidden stronghold and using 12 “Eyes of Ender” to activate a portal, bringing said player to a realm called “The End”.  When a player is at this point in the game, they need to be equipped with stronger armor and tools to prepare for battle, which could point to the sequel delivering higher stakes all around.

With Lee confirming production is set to begin in April in New Zealand, there is sure to be casting, story details, and other news coming soon.  Director Jared Hess will also be returning as director for the sequel.  The release date for A Minecraft Movie 2 is currently July 23, 2027.
