International actress, producer, and beauty icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas reportedly is in final negotiations with the upcoming Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow sequel The Matrix 4.
With over 50 films credited to her name, Chopra Jonas has established herself as a huge star, particularly in the Bollywood industry. Her U.S. television debut was on the ABC drama Quantico, which ran from 2015 to 2018. Her debut on the FBI drama marked her as the first Indian-born actor to star in a primetime network series, and won her a People’s Choice Award for her role in 2016. She will be seen next in Netflix’s children superhero movie We Can Be Heroes. In tandem with The Matrix 4, she will also be starring in Citadel, an Amazon event series with Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) headed by Avengers: Endgame directors The Russo Bros.
In addition to Chopra Jonas, the Matrix series co-creator and sequel director Lana Wachowski has confirmed Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Neil Patrick Harris, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Chopra Jones’ character and the official title of the sequel remains unknown, although the cast has reportedly been in fight training for weeks, with production beginning in Northern California.
The original Matrix film debuted in 1999 and centers around a resistance team who are not prone to the Matrix, a computer simulation meant to enslave the human race, and must fight against enemies and secret agents manipulating the system in order to save humanity. With The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (2003) following the original sci-fi thriller, and The Matrix 4 currently in the works, the successful franchise still remains a piece of American pop culture in this decade.
The release date for the sequel is set for May 21, 2021.
