Predator: Badlands has hit theaters, and audiences are sharing their thoughts. The film grabbed $4.8 million in previews, which includes both early Wednesday and Thursday night showings.
Based on over 500 verified ratings, the film has earned a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. If the audience score stands as more see the film, it could be the highest-rated Predator movie ever.
This would give director Dan Trachtenberg a clean sweep of “fresh” designations in his revival films of the Predator franchise. 2022’s Prey received a critics’ score of 94% and an audience score of 74%. Predator: Killer of Killers, which was released earlier this year, received a critics’ score of 95% and an audience score of 88%. Badlands currently sits at an 86% critics’ score with its 96% audience score.
Even with the PG-13 rating, fans are still enjoying the film, praising its action-packed sequences, entertainment factor, and fresh new characters, with MXDWN’s very own Raymond Flotat calling the film “A breathtaking cinematic experience.”
There are currently no follow-up movies to Badlands. However, Trachtenberg has said in the past he developed three ideas following Prey, “Killers is one, Badlands is two and the third one is something else.” According to Screenrant, the next film has been rumored to be titled Prey 2.
Projections for the opening weekend show $25 million to $30 million. Predator: Badlands is now playing in theaters.
