The popular anime series KonoSuba is getting its own movie. Beginning as a light novel series that eventually turned into a manga and anime, KonoSuba is a parody of Isekai, harem, and fantasy Japanese stories, eventually becoming popular amongst western anime fans due its humor and quality English dub. Now the franchise is getting a movie which will be called KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Crimson Legend.
The movie is being headed by KonoSuba‘s anime director Takaomi Kanasaki, with the original Japanese cast reprising their roles from the TV series. The movie is scheduled for an August 30th release in Japan, but it’s currently unknown when a U.S. release is expected. However Crunchyroll, the company responsible for distributing the show’s English dub, has announced that they will be “bringing over” KonoSuba at some point. Presumably when Crunchyroll does distribute the movie internationally, the original dub cast will reprise their roles.
The story of KonoSuba follows a snarky teenage boy named Kazuma Satō, who dies in an extremely embarrassing manner. After his death, Kazuma meets a goddess named Aqua and is offered the chance to be reincarnated into a mysterious fantasy world. Kazuma tricks Aqua into joining him in the new world, where the are tasked with defeating the Devil King in order to return to the afterlife. Throughout this new world Kazuma and Aqua encounter other zany and incompetent characters, including an explosion-obsessed mage named Megumin and a masochistic paladin called Darkness. Hilarity ensues.
KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Crimson Legend will follow these incompetent heroes as they embark on a quest to save Megumin’s hometown, Crimson Demon Village, from imminent destruction. Hopefully the heroes will save the town without destroying it themselves!
