The popular horror game Poppy Playtime is getting a film adaptation through Legendary Pictures. The game’s original producers, Mob Entertainment, will collaborate with Legendary and Angry Films to help bring Poppy, Huggy Wuggy, and more to the silver screen.
Mob Entertainment co-founders Seth and Zach Belanger have expressed excitement and eagerness over getting the chance to partner with Legendary Pictures for this project. In a press statement, the two called the film “a great logical next step in the growth of our transmedia entertainment company.” To them, Poppy Playtime was a passion project that “has captured the hearts of tens of millions around the world,” much to their pleasure.
Poppy Playtime follows an old factory worker who traverses the abandoned Playtime Co. factory to uncover what happened to their coworkers. During this journey, the toys come to life and either ally with or attack the factory worker.
Many people expect great success from this adaptation, especially when the Five Nights at Freddy’s film was so successful during its theatrical run. Both franchises originated as indie games taking inspiration from childhood nostalgia and twisting it into nightmares.
There are no solid release or production start dates, though the film will hopefully have a shorter time in development than FNAF’s nearly eight-year stint in development hell.
