‘Poor Things’ And ‘Oppenheimer’ Win Big At The Art Director’s Guild Awards

Max Greenfield hosted the Art Directors Guild Awards this past Saturday at the Ray Dolby Ballroom, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The big winners were Oppenheimer, which took home the award for production – period feature film, Poor Things, which won for best production – fantasy feature film, Saltburn, which won for best production – Contemporary feature film, and Spider-man: Across the Spiderverse, which won for best production – animated feature film.

These awards are important because they can lead to arguably the most prestigious award in the film industry, the Oscar. The Hollywood Reporter stated, “Over the past five years, the winner of the ADG’s period film prize has gone on to win the Oscar for production design twice: In 2020, for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and in 2021, for Mank. During that time, the production design Oscar went to the winner of the fantasy category twice, in 2019, for Black Panther, and 2022, for Dune. A year ago, eventual Oscar winner All Quiet on the Western Front was nominated in the period film category but Babylon won the ADG Award in that category.”

Two winners of the ADG awards, Oppenheimer and Poor Things, are nominated for production design as well as best picture at the upcoming Academy Awards.

The 96th annual Academy Awards will air on March 10th, 2024 on ABC.

Hannah Mitchell: Hi All! My name is Hannah Mitchell, I just graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a major in English. I am very excited to start writing for Mxdwn! I have been passionate about film and storytelling from a young age. My favorite movie of all time is Stand by Me. My favorite TV Show is Succession (a bit basic, I know). But I also love British TV and film and some of my favorite shows from across the pond are Crashing and Misfits. I actually met Jonathan Bailey in London which was incredibly exciting. Anyways, I'm ready to write for this site and am optimistic about my future here!
