On the eve of their highly-anticipated Hail Caesar! hitting theaters, we’re already hearing plot details about the Coen Brothers’ next script, Suburbicon, being directed by George Clooney (The Monuments Men).
The film, which may star Matt Damon (The Martian), Julianne Moore (Maggie’s Plan), and Josh Brolin (Sicario) is said to be partially inspired by Joel and Ethan Coen’s Blood Simple in that it follows people living a seemingly normal life in a 1950’s suburb until a home invasion turns deadly. The family at the center has to turn to dark tactics in order to survive.
While Brolin stars in the Coen’s Hail Caesar! and Moore in The Big Lebowski, neither have appeared in a film directed by Clooney. The reverse can be said for Damon (who co-starred in The Monuments Men). It will be interesting to see how the film shapes up for Clooney who hasn’t had a hit since 2011’s The Ides of March which was sandwiched between flops Leatherheads (2009)and The Monuments Men (2014).
Damon is currently looking ahead to his Oscar nomination for The Martian as well the fifth film in the Bourne franchise for 2016. Moore is currently working on Todd Haynes’ (Carol) Wonderstruck while Brolin has the crime drama Three Seconds on the docket.
No release dates have been announced at this point for Suburbicon. We’ll have more on the project as it develops.
