It looks like Dark Phoenix will be rising from the ashes.
After a fair amount of rumors, it looks like Sophie Turner will be starring in a Dark Phoenix film. Turner will be reprising her role of Jean Grey, the X-Men member and titular Dark Phoenix.
This will not be Dark Phoenix’s first time on the screen. While Turner started playing Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, Famke Janssen preceded her in playing the role, both portraying Grey herself in the original trilogy of X-Men films and also the alter ego of her character in the critically panned X-Men: the Last Stand.
It also looks like we have already gotten a glimpse of Dark Phoenix’s destructive power in X-Men: Apocalypse, when Grey lets go of her fears and apprehensions in order to defeat the all-powerful villain, Apocalypse. Her destructive capabilities ultimately helped save the day in that movie, but in her character’s historical comic background, that isn’t always the case. Her strengthened telepathy and telekinesis will prove a difficult pairing to overcome, for whoever she is up against.
Turner will be acting alongside returning franchise members, such as James McAvoy (Professor X), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and Michael Fassbender (Magneto). Currently, Jessica Chastain (Crimson Peak) is still in negotiations to play the villain of the movie, Empress Lilandra.
While it has yet to be officially confirmed, it seems like Simon Kinberg will direct the film. It’s poised to be released on November 2, 2018.
