Hoppers, the forthcoming project by premiere CG animation company Pixar, has released a major teaser trailer. In under 2 minutes, the teaser unveils the film’s central premise of a young girl named Mabel, who through the use of a company’s new technology, places her mind in the body of a fake beaver in order to communicate and co-exist with the animal kingdom. The teaser humorously illustrates its base similarities to the blockbuster film franchise Avatar, before hinting at the crux of the film’s conflict being Mabel’s interference with the natural way of life. Her confusion at the resignation of a lackadaisical beaver who is nearly devoured by a hungry bear, illuminating that it is the “pond rules” shows that Pixar’s classic sense of rules-based and organized worlds is malleable to translate to something as specific as the dynamics of natural selection and beaver- pond ecosystems.
Hoppers is written and directed by Daniel Chong, the creator of the hit Cartoon Network tv series We Bare Bears. Chong had previously worked at Pixar in the early 2010s, having cut his teeth on animated shorts for the Toy Story franchise. He returned to Pixar in 2020 to begin working on the project that coalesced into Hoppers
Continuing Pixar’s tendency for accruing renown talent to voice their characters, Hoppers features among its voice cast SNL comedian Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Top Gun: Maverick, Marjorie Prime) though neither’s voice nor character has been revealed in the teaser. Hoppers is due for theatrical release on March 6, 2026.
