Hoppers, the latest animated film from Disney and Pixar, has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with an extremely high rating. As of March 3, the film stands at 96% Certified Fresh on the review-aggregation website. The film is the latest original, non-sequel animated film from Pixar, following last year’s Elio.
Here is the film’s full synopsis, taken from Collider’s Spring Preview:
What if you could talk to animals and understand what they’re saying? In Disney and Pixar’s all-new feature film Hoppers, scientists have discovered how to “hop” human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals! The adventure introduces Mabel, an animal lover who seizes an opportunity to use the technology, uncovering mysteries within the animal world that are beyond anything she could have imagined.
Hoppers features a voice cast including Meryl Streep, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Sam Richardson, Dave Franco, Demetri Martin, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, Bobby Moynihan, and, finally, Piper Curda as the protagonist, Mabel. The film is directed by Daniel Chong, creator of the Cartoon Network animated series We Bare Bears, and written by Chong and Jesse Andrews.
It’ll be yet to be seen if the film’s positive reviews will translate into box-office success when it releases in theaters this Friday, March 6. It’ll be going up against Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, starring Jesse Buckley and Christian Bale, as well as films like Scream 7 and “Wuthering Heights“, which will be entering their second and third weekend in theaters, respectively.
