While the topic of a new installment in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise has been in discussion since the last film’s release in 2017, speculation has been rampant if series mainstay Johnny Depp will return at the helm. However, recent news has suggested that Depp’s return to the franchise may be more possible than many fans suspect.
Johnny Depp became an icon of pop culture when he starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl. Frequently having his skill be underestimated, Sparrow was a character many latched on to, with Depp headlining the other four films in the series as the character.
His performance in Curse Of The Black Pearl would even land Depp an Oscar nomination for Best Leading Actor.
Screenrant noted that in the wake of the fifth film release in 2017, Depp would become entangled in a trial between him and his ex-wife Amber Heard, which would lead to several studios cutting ties with Depp. The trial would later end in Depp’s favor.
While it seemed unlikely for some time that Depp would take up his hat and compass again as Jack Sparrow for a sixth installment, Variety reported that odds of it happening may be greater than anticipated.
The film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, who also served as producer on the other five films, said that the idea of Depp’s return hasn’t been taken off the table completely.
