Sylvester Stallone is set to portray a long-lost super hero in Julius Avery’s (Overlord) Samaritan, and the first images of the film were just released. The action-thriller tells the story of a young boy who is out to discover if a long-lost hero is still alive after vanishing 20 years prior.
The first image of the film (via Games Radar) doesn’t give away too much of the plot, as it just shows Stallone with a hoodie on, covering his face. He does appear to be hiding a little boy in the frame, most likely from something dangerous. Although very little of the plot is actually known, director Julius Avery claims that it will be very action packed: “We’re going to see Sly do things he hasn’t done in a long time, and in a really inventive way”. Like many fans believe, Avery says actors such as Stallone were the superheroes of the ‘80s and says putting him in a superhero movie is something that “…feels fresh and cool and something that people will get a kick out of”. Stallone has been a favorite among action fans since his role in Rocky, but his more recent projects haven’t gotten the same amount of love as he used to. Since Stallone’s last film Rambo: Last Blood didn’t do great at the box office, hopefully Samaritan will be a comeback for Stallone. The film is set to be released June 4th, 2021 in theaters.
