Danny and Michael Philippou, the Australian filmmaker brothers duo best known for the Netflix horror film Talk to Me. Both brothers started out on youtube where they were known as “RackaRacka” initially they were known for their horror-comedy videos. Talk to me premiered in 2023 at the acclaimed Sundance festival. The duo were set to direct the upcoming live-action Street Fighter film as Legendary Entertainment acquired the rights in April 2023. However they unexpectedly exited the project in early June 2024, the reason was that their schedules were not lining up with their original horror film Bring Her Back, which began filming in Australia later that month.
In a recent interview, the Philippou brothers discussed their choice on leaving the film, they expressed admiration and respect for the Street Fighter franchise, however that comes with a desire not to compromise its legacy. They felt that their commitment to their own original film Bring Her Back would ultimately prevent them from committing fully, the necessary time and energy to do justice to the Street Fighter adaptation.
Following their leave, Bad Trip and The Eric André Show director Kitao Sakurai, was brought on board in February 2025. Initially the film was set to release on March 20, 2026, but was recently removed from Sony’s release calendar in March 2025. As of right now, there is no release date. Despite these changes, casting wars continue, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Andrew Koji, and Noah Centineo have circled the talks for roles in the film.
The Philippou brothers remain active in the film industry, focusing on Bring Her Back. Good news for fans for Talk to me, there is a sequel to Talk to Me in the works.
