Peter Dinklage (HBO’s Game of Thrones) and Nicola Peltz (Transformers: Age of Extinction) are in talks to join the adaptation of the John D. MacDonald mystery thriller The Deep Blue Good-By according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie will follow detective Travis McGee , an Afghan war vet who is seeking stolen sapphires which end up leading him to a sadistic torturer.
Christian Bale (The Dark Knight) will play McGee – who is being rewritten from the WWII veteran he was in the novel – while Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) will play Lois Atkinson. Dinklage is up for the role of McGee’s sidekick, Meyer, while Peltz will play Cathy Kerr, woman who hires McGee. The movie is being directed by James Mangold (The Wolverine), who previously worked with Bale on the western remake 3:10 To Yuma. Deep Blue Good-by is the first book in a series of 21 adventures starring McGee. 20th Century Fox and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company are hoping to turn the series into a franchise.
This is a big break for Peltz ,whose biggest role to date was in last year’s Transformers sequel. She also has a role in the upcoming movie Low-Riders. Dinklage, on the other hand, is continuing to build on the mainstream audience awareness he established as Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and has begun starring in more features, like X-Men: Days of Future Past as well as the upcoming action/comedy Pixels.
The Deep Blue Good-By is currently in pre-production and is set to hit theaters in 2016.
