Peter Capaldi Cast in ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel; Pete Davidson Might be Next

Deadline reported that Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi has just been cast in the upcoming Warner Bros. film Suicide Squad 2, set to premiere in 2021. This news comes with the rumor that SNL cast member Pete Davidson is being eyed for a role in the film as well. There is no information on which DC comics character Capaldi is set to play.

The first Suicide Squad came out in 2016 to negative critical reviews but made upwards of $746 million at the box office. It starred Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis, and was directed by Fury  director David Ayer.

The 2021 release will be directed this time by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who also wrote the script. The returning cast members are Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag. New cast members will be Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Flula Borg, Steve Agee, Nathan Fillion, and Taika Waititi.

If 2021 seems too far away, fret not because a spin-off film titled Birds of Prey will soon star Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, and Ewan McGregor. The film is directed by Cathy Yan and is set to be released on February 7, 2020.
